    See Rock City

If you’ve ever been down in southern U.S. you may have noticed barns along the highways that have “See Rock City” painted on their roofs and on the side of the barns. Some of you may know what is, other not so much. Rock City is located outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee at Lookout Mountain. It was mentioned in two diaries during the Civil War, one was in the diary of a Union Soldier, the other a Confederate Nurse, that from the top you could see 7 states. It wasn’t until the 1930s that Rick City would become what it is today. Garnet and Freida Carter started their adventure into creating…

    Crazy Horse Memorial

Earlier this year I got to go on a little trip to South Dakota. I got to go see Strugis, Mount Rushmore, Wall Drug and the Crazy Horse Memorial Monument, which isn’t far from Mount Rushmore. It is currently still under construction but is open to the public to come and view. Construction started in 1948 on the privately owned land by the sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski. Korczak was commissioned by the Lakota elder, Henry Standing Bear to memorialize, honor, and bring remembrance to Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse was is one of the most well know Native American warriors, most famously know from the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. Construction…

Where the Heck is Wall Drug?!

Well I can tell you not only where the heck it is but also what the heck it is! I recently took a trip to South Dakota with my family to see Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sturgis, and of course the infamous Wall Drug. I have had these stops on my bucket list for years now, especially Wall Drug after the story my Granddaddy told me growing up. 25 years prior to this trip my parents took one with my Granddaddy to see Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. As they made the drive they passed a numerous amount of signs advertising Wall Drug. It was a place he wanted to…

    Costa Rican Adventure

In June of 2013 for a wonderful 10 days in Costa Rica. This wonderful Latin American Country is located between Nicaragua and Panama. I, along with 12 other students from my high schools Spanish and Art Club, 3 chaperones, and the two club directors, got to go on this magical adventure through EF Tours. If you haven’t heard of EF Tours, they are a company that provides fun, educational, culturally immersive, tours all over the world.  They handle all the travel planning, you provide the funds. At the time I took this trip it costed me $2,200.00 to spend 10 days in Costa Rica. This included my lodging, meals, excursions,…

Summer adventure plans and 4th of July

Hey y’all, I know it’s tough right now to do any big traveling, BUT is there anything fun you have done so far this summer? Have you just been relaxing? Traveled anywhere? Planning on anything fun? I have just been enjoying time at the lake relaxing, kayaking, swimming, and working on some great posts that will be coming soon. I spent my 4th of July doing a boat parade, a classic car cruise, as well as enjoying the fireworks. The lake my family lives on does a boat parade; the lake community comes together and decorates their boats with USA pride, line up, and cruise around the lake showing off…

    Mount Rushmore

The Midwest has far more than just cornfields and cows. South Dakota is home to many wonderful sites to include a grand national monument, Mount Rushmore. Now for those of you that don’t know the significance of Mount Rushmore, here’s a little overview of it’s history: the person who conceived the idea of Mount Rushmore was a historian by the name of Doane Robinson and he came up with this idea to promote tourism in South Dakota. The came up with this idea in 1923 and a year later got a sculptor by the name of Gutzon Borglum on board. the construction started in 1927 and ended in 1941 and…

    Milan Italy

Earlier this year I took a trip to see one of my absolute best friend and sister and practically my sister in Italy. We hosted her a few years ago as a foreign exchange student, and as many people who host exchange students understand, they become your family too. You magically gain another child, a sibling, and a whole extended family. I don’t even know where to begin with this trip, so best to start at the beginning right? The flight I took only had one layover, in New York, and was about a total (to include the lay over) 17 hours. The flight was really comfortable surprisingly and had…
