Stone Mountain Park, GA Laser Show
I have family that lives down south, mostly in the wonderful peach state we know as Georgia. Now yes, I live in Minnesota, but I was born in Georgia and brought to Minnesota as a small child; my mom was born and raised in Georgia, so most of her family is there. When we go to visit her family we have many fun traditions like going to Fresh Air BBQ, The Varsity, going to the Mall of Georgia, and most of all going to Stone Mountain Park. Stone Mountain is a giant piece of granite that sticks up out of the ground. It is about 1,686 feet above sea level and is a memorial to the Confederate Generals from the Civil war, which are carved into the side of the mountain. It is a wonderfully historic park that also is home to miles of old homes that go back to the end of the Civil War and has some really great tours as well. At Easter time they have a really nice sunrise church service on the top of the mountain. It is absolutely breathtaking. Now if church services and historic tours aren’t your thing, go for their laser show! They take lasers, similar to what you use to play with your cat, only much more high powered, and use them to draw on the mountain. They play sounds and music and use the lasers to portray what is going on. Of course being in Georgia you will have a Coca Cola advertisement that they use the lasers to portray, they play the song The Devil Went Down to Georgia and use the lasers to draw out a music video for it, and to finish it all off they trace the carvings of the Confederate Generals and recreate scenes from the Civil War. Now they do this starting in March and goes for a couple of weeks in October and people from all over the U.S. come to see it. The laser show is my favorite thing to go see every time we visit. I highly recommend going to Stone Mountain, especially for the laser show, if you ever find yourself in Georgia. It is truly breath taking and have so many things to do, see, and experience all year round.
