    Hotel Hacks

Hotels are a typical thing in traveling. It’s easy, convenient, sometimes affordable, and traditional! But you can always make it more fun, and affordable. Here are some tips I have compiled to help with that: As I stated in my Travel Tips, don’t book your hotel stay on travel/booking sites. I worked at a hotel and have a few friends that currently work in a hotel, and an uncommonly known thing is that most hotels simply just receive an email from that company and then the front desk receptionist has to review that and enter that information, and they may not have the availability, the information could get lost, or…

    See Rock City

If you’ve ever been down in southern U.S. you may have noticed barns along the highways that have “See Rock City” painted on their roofs and on the side of the barns. Some of you may know what is, other not so much. Rock City is located outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee at Lookout Mountain. It was mentioned in two diaries during the Civil War, one was in the diary of a Union Soldier, the other a Confederate Nurse, that from the top you could see 7 states. It wasn’t until the 1930s that Rick City would become what it is today. Garnet and Freida Carter started their adventure into creating…

    Inspiration Peak, Minnesota

One of the many things I love doing when traveling, and even in my spare time is hiking and going on trails. Since I was a kid, on of my favorites was going to a place called Inspiration Peak. Located not far from the Continental Divide, in Clitherall Minnesota, is the 1,750 feet above sea level peak and is the highest point in Ottertail County Minnesota. Inspiration Peak got it’s name due to the author Sinclair Lewis going there to gain “inspiration” for his novels, short stories, and plays. He wrote about the peak saying,“There’s to be seen a glorious 20-mile circle of some 50 lakes scattered among fields and…

Where the Heck is Wall Drug?!

Well I can tell you not only where the heck it is but also what the heck it is! I recently took a trip to South Dakota with my family to see Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sturgis, and of course the infamous Wall Drug. I have had these stops on my bucket list for years now, especially Wall Drug after the story my Granddaddy told me growing up. 25 years prior to this trip my parents took one with my Granddaddy to see Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. As they made the drive they passed a numerous amount of signs advertising Wall Drug. It was a place he wanted to…

They have some very unique things for sale in their store from kids toys, baby clothes, to local lake themed decor, soaps, kitchen gadgets, and jewelry. And let’s not forget the above mentioned ice cream, coffees/teas, smoothies, wine and beer, and their deli. My personal favorite is an Iced vanilla Chai Tea that Marnie got me hooked on (thanks for that one Marnie). Dan and Marnie moved up here from the the twin cities area…

    Mount Rushmore

The Midwest has far more than just cornfields and cows. South Dakota is home to many wonderful sites to include a grand national monument, Mount Rushmore. Now for those of you that don’t know the significance of Mount Rushmore, here’s a little overview of it’s history: the person who conceived the idea of Mount Rushmore was a historian by the name of Doane Robinson and he came up with this idea to promote tourism in South Dakota. The came up with this idea in 1923 and a year later got a sculptor by the name of Gutzon Borglum on board. the construction started in 1927 and ended in 1941 and…

    DeLeo Bros. Pizzeria

If you’re ever looking for a good place with a good vibe, 8-bit nerdy atmosphere and some darn good pizza then look no further than this delicious hole in the wall! DeLeo Bros Pizzeria is located inside the Southdale Mall in Edina, MN. With pizza the size of your face for only a couple of dollars a slice and the 1980s memorabilia plastered all over I can easily say that this is one of my favorite places to chow down and nerd out at. The pizza is always hot when you get in and can only be described as a pizza that you will not get from a Domino’s, Pizza…

    Butterfly Tagging

One of my favorite summer activities is going to the Fergus Falls Prairie Wetland Management District and Learning Center. The have so many wonderful walking paths you can take to explore all of the beauty the Prairie and the Prairie Wetlands has to offer. My absolute favorite thing to do there is the Butterfly Tagging. Butterfly tagging isn’t entirely what it sounds like. You walk around and look for Monarch Butterfly, catch it in a net, take it to on of the DNR members/Park Rangers and they help you put this special sticker on their wing that has a number on it to identify that butterfly, then you simply release…
